Celebrate the End of the Year at Kites with Lights

Some of the best events in the Outer Banks occur just as winter approaches and the year begins to wind down. One of these exciting events is Kites with Lights, which always celebrates the end of the year in memorable fashion. On November 26th, come out and enjoy the festivities at Jockey’s Ridge near Kitty Hawk Kites. It’s the perfect event for the whole family, but bundle up! It may get chilly!

Come See Santa Claus at Kites with Lights

Each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, you can meet Santa Claus at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head. Santa always makes it a point to visit with every child before he leaves. If the weather is too cold to be outside, Santa will be stationed inside the store. Otherwise, he’ll be right outside under the sign. Make this a wonderful family tradition your kids are sure not to forget!

Once the sun begins to set, head over to Jockey’s Ridge and watch the enormous 19-foot-long kites fly high over the dunes. After dark, the huge kites, decked out in Christmas lights, light up the sky creating a spectacle to celebrate the holiday season. You can do your part to light up the night by bringing flashlights, glow sticks, light-up toys, and more. Watch from the dunes or from across the street at Kitty Hawk Kites, there isn’t a bad seat!

Cookies and Cocoa to Keep You Warm

Be sure to bundle up for the chilly night! If you do get cold, don’t worry. Kitty Hawk Kites will have hot cocoa, cider, and mountains of cookies to enjoy, free of charge for all spectators.

At the end of all the festivities, you can enjoy the lighting of the Jockey’s Ridge State Park Solar Christmas tree. Kites with Lights is perfect for the whole family from kids to grandparents!

The festivities begin on Friday with photos with Santa at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They continue on Saturday with photos with Santa from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and then Saturday night with Kites with Lights from 4 p.m. until dark.
