Perhaps one of the most highly anticipated holiday events that return to the Outer Banks in 2022 is WinterLights. Hosted at the Elizabethan Gardens between November 25th and December 30th, this spectacular event sees an iconic Outer Banks destination decked out with lights, festive food, and an embellished hall as well as cozy fire pits dotted across the Great Lawn. Guests are invited to stroll the garden paths and savor sights of everything from sparkling butterflies and deer to peacocks and a collection of captivating garden creatures. During a visit, guests can also browse a variety of seasonal plants for sale or take time to enjoy the holiday gift shop on-site. Tickets to the event run $16 for adults, $12 for children ages 6 to 17, and $8 for children ages 2 to 5. This is a pet-friendly holiday experience as well and those touring the grounds with a dog can do so for an additional $5. The Elizabethan Gardens are found at 1411 National Park Drive in Manteo on Roanoke Island. In total, the gardens cover 10 acres of terrain, giving guests plenty of space to roam, relax, and enjoy the holiday spirit at its very best in the Outer Banks this year!
Those who are looking for a drive-by holiday light display to enjoy in the Outer Banks will want to head to Kill Devil Hills where the Mennicucci Family Light Display will be in full glow in 2022 as well! In partnership with Hand of Gold Home Improvements, this display at 206 Clamshell Drive comes to life at dusk and invites drivers to tune their radio to 107.9 FM as they pass by to pair music with the spectacular display of dancing lights. While there’s no admission for this holiday event, food donations for the Beach food pantry are encouraged. Come check it out for a great cause!

When your Outer Banks holiday adventures have you spending time in Kill Devil Hills and you have some last-minute gifts to check off the shopping list, there’s no better place to find yourself than the First Flight Holiday Markets! Hosted in Aviation Park on November 19th, December 6th, December 17th, and December 20th, these markets are one-of-a-kind and filled with options for souvenirs, gifts, and seasonal goodies that are designed to inspire. Visitors will find everything from local homegrown goods to handmade crafts and home-baked treats available for purchase. On average, the market welcomes more than 65 local vendors and guests will have easy access to food trucks too! Beyond the savory options to browse, this market hosts photography, paintings, jewelry, bath items, and woodworking products. Those who are spending time in Manteo this holiday season will enjoy the festivities coming on December 1st through the 3rd in 2022. Over these three days, downtown is transformed into a winter wonderland complete with sparkling holiday lights, a tree lighting event, and the arrival of Santa! Guests can enjoy holiday shopping downtown when they aren’t grabbing photos with Santa or making the most of viewing holiday light-covered boats docked along the boardwalk. The annual Christmas parade tops things off on Saturday, December 3rd, and is a fun-for-all event you won’t want to miss.
Explore Historic Whalehead in Corolla This Holiday Season
Year-round, a tour of the historic Whalehead Club in Corolla is a highlight of a trip to the Outer Banks. At Christmas in the Outer Banks, this iconic stop has even more to offer in the way of inspiring moments. Between November 25th and December 17th, guests are invited to tour Whalehead for $20 a person and enjoy walking through this historic site when it’s decorated in its holiday finest! The club is decked out in spectacular décor throughout and there’s a massive Christmas tree on-site as well as gorgeous greenery to admire. Christmas carols will be played on the original Steinway piano in the club, setting up a classic holiday scene that’s bound to thrill. The tour is about an hour on average and the inclusion of candlelight makes it all that more magical. Treats will be served at the end of the tour too!
