Things to Do During Your Weeklong Stay

Corolla is the perfect sort of beach town for just kicking back to relax, toes in the sand. And of course, you can do that for as long as you like! It’s easy to make the most of days spent at the beach, whether you prefer early morning shell-hunting excursions, quick mid-day dips in the ocean, or long romantic walks on the sand. But in case you need more to do, don’t worry—there’s plenty of options.

Ocean lovers will rejoice in exploring a huge variety of sports, from deep-sea fishing to windsurfing. The Outer Banks are the perfect place to indulge in your favorite water sports, as well as try something new. Why not learn to stand-up paddle on this vacation? Or perhaps combine a kayak trip with a wilderness excursion, with a guided paddling trip from the Coastal Kayak Touring Company. You’ll explore nearby wilderness refuges with the help of knowledgeable guides, who’ll educate you about the flora and fauna of the area, all while making sure you have a great time paddling, even if you’re a total beginner!

Wildlife enthusiasts will savor the chance to see the famous wild mustangs of Corolla, as well as the countless migratory birds that winter in the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge. For those who want to learn more about the wildlife they’re viewing, you’re in luck: Corolla is home to the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, the best natural history museum in the Outer Banks. You can also visit the Corolla Wild Horse Fund Museum and Store, for more information about the majestic horses of Corolla’s beaches, as well as to arrange a guided tour to see them.

Adventurers can test their ninja warrior skills on the ziplines and obstacle courses at the Corolla Adventure Park, a giant jungle gym in the sky that offers tons of fun for the whole family. With 11 different obstacle circuits to choose from, and a total of eight zip lines, everyone will be able to craft a memorable and challenging experience here. You can also try your hand at axe throwing! Serious adventurers can even go for the ultimate bucket list adventure: skydiving! Skydive OBX is proud to offer tandem skydive jumps for those with no experience, and the gorgeous scenery of the Outer Banks as seen from above is sure to make it truly memorable!

Those who prefer to remain on land have still more great options for interesting things to do in Corolla. History buffs will be entranced by Whalehead, a beautiful 1920s-era hunting estate that evokes a time when the Outer Banks were less populated. Built by a wealthy man to please his wife, who wasn’t allowed to join all-male hunting clubs of the day, this sumptuous estate was fully restored in the 1990s. Enjoy a tour of the Art Nouveau-style residence, as well as wandering the grounds of this 39-acre waterfront property. Right next door, head up the stairs at Currituck Beach Lighthouse, and get a great view of Corolla and the Currituck Sound.

Flavors of Corolla

Of course, during a weeklong stay, you’ll need to have a lot of great meals, which is easy in Corolla. Seafood is key here, whether you catch it yourself or not. One fun way to have an awesome family meal is with the Corolla, Outer Banks Boil Company. Instead of going to a restaurant, they bring the meal to you with a fun catering service that boils up the most amazing pot of seafood, sausage, onions, potatoes, and corn covered with their delicious signature seasonings. If your group is smaller, you also have the option to do takeout and boil it yourself at home. Either way, it’s one of the best options for savoring true Carolina flavor.
