See the largest fireworks show on the Outer Banks at dusk on July 4th at historic Corolla Park. Admission is free and free parking is available at the park until our lots are full. Join the Celebration in Manteo
On the 4th of July, Manteo always brings vibrant holiday energy to the forefront and invites visitors and guests alike to come and celebrate the holiday in style. On Independence Day, the streets of Manteo can be counted on to be packed with guests excited to get in on the fun. There are an array of kid’s activities and games available and a morning singing of the National Anthem that typically happens at the old Courthouse as well. The day is filled with unique contests of all kinds ranging from the best decorated bike contests to a wacky hat contest too. There are also apple pie contests, so you won’t have to worry about satisfying a sweet tooth when you drop by.
Guests heading this way on the 4th can also choose to indulge in some rich history at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Here, the celebration revolves around the area as the first English settlement in America. Visitors will enjoy viewing the Elizabeth II situated across from the Manteo waterfront. This is a full representation of one of seven ships that participated in the Roanoke Voyage of 1585. There are possibilities to step onboard and feel what it might have been like to travel by sea hundreds of years ago! Roanoke Island Festival Park also hosts a settlement site, a blacksmith shop, and an adventure museum on-site. On the 4th of July, this area hosts a variety of musical performances on the pavilion as well for guests to enjoy which are followed up by a fireworks show when the sun goes down.

There will be fireworks after dark at the Nags Head Fishing Pier as well as a popular display at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills which is best enjoyed from Jockey’s Ridge. Visitors can also enjoy fireworks at Avon Pier on the 4th of July starting at around 9:00 pm. This fireworks show comes with a variety of Hatteras Island events to check out and can be easily viewed from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Beaches.
Run Your Way to 4th of July Fun
If you’re the type that looks for a little friendly competition everywhere you go, you’ll find it waiting for you in the Outer Banks over the 4th of July. This is when the 8th annual Outer Banks Freedom 5K comes to town and invites visitors and locals to make the most of the 5K run or 1 mile race across Kill Devil Hills. The race begins at 102 Town Hall Drive and is suitable for runners of all ages. The race is presented by The OBX Running Company and SUN Realty to celebrate the holiday in healthy style. Custom-designed trophies are handed out to the top male and female winners while all participants will receive an event t-shirt and finisher medal. After the race is run, participants and guests can enjoy a fun gathering where apple pastries, light refreshments, and watermelon will be served up.
