Outer Banks Marathon Events

Outer Banks Marathon

The Outer Banks Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 10, 2019. As a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, many racers take this event very seriously. A 26.2-mile path leads runners through the village of Kitty Hawk and the historic Kill Devil Hills. You’ll also weave your way through the Nags Head maritime forest before ending in the historic town of Manteo. The race itself is scheduled to begin at precisely 7:20 am and the awards for the Outer Banks Marathon will commence at 12:15 pm that same day.

Southern Fried Half Marathon

Runners looking to participate in the Southern Fried Half Marathon can experience the second half of the Outer Banks Marathon beginning in Nags Head, near the largest sand dune on the East Coast at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Runners will then cross the beautiful Washington-Baum Bridge, and finish in the waterfront village of Manteo. Once racers cross the finish line they are treated to Southern Fried Sweet Taters! This is a great way to experience part of the Outer Banks Marathon without overworking yourself.

Southern 6

The Southern 6 race also takes place on Sunday, November 10, 2019. This option allows people to participate in the race at a significantly shorter distance. This course is just slightly more than six miles and also finished in the charming town of Manteo where the after party will be held.

Other Events

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, there will be an 8K, 5K, Family Fun Run, and Diaper Dash. The Outer Banks 8K and the Buccaneer 5K are both out-and-back courses. The Family Fun Run is a 1.2-mile race open for walkers and runners. The Diaper Dash is a free event for ages 1-3. During the day, there will also be a family festival with activities like face painting, bounce houses, and a rock climbing wall.

Post-Race Block Party

Whether or not you decide to participate in one of the many race options, you should definitely head to downtown Manteo on Sunday, November 10th to partake in the post-race festivities. The festival includes live music and local food like authentic North Carolina barbecue and sweet potato fries.
