Mark your calendar for November 6-8, 2015 and experience the year’s most scenic race by the sea. This marks the 10th year of the Outer Banks Marathon and will surely be one of the festivals in North Carolina you won’t want to miss.
There are activities planned for the entire week, so whether you are a serious runner or looking for some family fun, there will be something for everyone.
The Outer Banks Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 7, 2015. As a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, serious racers can work toward achieving future goals. The 26.2-mile course will take runners through the village of Kitty Hawk and historic Kill Devil Hills, (home of the First Flight), through the incredible maritime forest of Nags Head and finally the historic town of Manteo.
Runners looking to participate in the Southern Fried Half Marathon can experience the second half of the Outer Banks Marathon beginning in Nags Head, near the largest sand dune on the East Coast at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Runners will then cross the beautiful Washington-Baum Bridge, and finish in the waterfront village of Manteo. Once racers cross the finish line they are treated to Southern Fried Sweet Taters!
If you want to be part of race day excitement but are looking for a shorter distance challenge, check out the Southern 6, which is a little over 6 miles. Finish the course in downtown Manteo and enjoy the festivities at the Finish Party.
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, there will be an 8K, 5K, Family Fun Run and Diaper Dash. The Outer Banks 8K and the Buccaneer 5K are both out-and-back courses. The Family Fun Run is a 1.2-mile race open for walkers and runners. The Diaper Dash is a free event for ages 1-3.
The 2015 Outer Banks Marathon offers 4 challenges for its most daring competitors. Choose from the following challenges and see if you have what it takes.
