3 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Sanctuary Vineyards
1. It’s a Local, Family-Owned Business
Seven generations of the Wright family have lived and farmed in Currituck County. So, it’s no surprise that their love for the area and experience with the land has produced award-winning, world-class wines! Coastal vineyards are subject to a variety of seasonal and weather-related disasters, but the Wright family’s dedication to quality has prevailed. We’re proud to have the excellent Sanctuary Vineyards so close to us in the Outer Banks.
One of our favorite ways to get to Sanctuary Vineyards is by boat! Hop on the Vineyard Voyage boat tour and cruise to the vineyard via the Currituck Sound. If you haven’t already dined at one of the Outer Banks’ best restaurants, you’ll find a delicious selection of small bites, such as bread and cheeses, at Sanctuary Vineyards to enjoy along with your wine.
2. The Wine Tastings Are Free!
With a wide range of wines available at Sanctuary Vineyards, there’s something to please every palate. If you like sweet wine, Life’s a Peach is a fruity treat you won’t want to miss, and The Plank is a great sweet red. If you prefer a dryer wine, Morton is a blend of “winemaker’s choice” red wines that will please any crowd and make a great gift. If you’re looking to pair a white wine with seafood, you can’t go wrong with The Triangle, a blend of three white varieties. For a full list of wine offerings to tempt you, visit their website or head to the vineyard!
The vineyard is open seven days a week for tastings. You can try all the wines for free, with no obligation to buy. (Although you’re likely to find a new favorite bottle of wine!) Free tastings are also offered at several Cotton Gin locations, but we always recommend a visit to the vineyards!
3. You Can Tour the Vineyards
Free tours of the vineyards and winery are offered every Monday and Wednesday. The friendly and knowledgeable staff and a beautiful location make a perfect afternoon outing! The tour explains the winemaking process in detail while making you feel like you’re a part of something truly unique. You’ll learn more about the types of grapes they grow and the flavors they produce. Additionally, there’s a gift shop on site with some unique wine-related gifts and souvenirs.
Be sure to check the Sanctuary Vineyards facebook page for fun events, such as the Acoustic Sunset or the Crabdaddy Seafood and Wine Festival. You can even plan a special event on the property, like a Sanctuary Vineyards wedding. For more information, take a look at the Sanctuary wedding page or call (252) 491-2387. Sanctuary Vineyards is located at 7005 Caratoke Highway, Jarvisburg, NC.
